History of SMS Alumni Association
When the MBA programme was started by Cochin University, there were only Part-time Batches. Those days, we are told that the Association was very active arranging talks by Leaders in Industry on a regular basis. Members of the faculty also had the time to devote to the activities of the Association. Later, when the Full time batches were also started, the Association died a slow death.
Again, the Association was revived in the late 80's, some time in 1986. Mr.Baiju Mani Paul (1974-76#) was the President & Mr.Stephen Abraham(1977-79#)was the Treasurer & yours truly was the Secretary. It was at that time decided that a Full time Student would be the Secretary.
This again died a slow death. It was again reconstituted in the 90's with Mr.Deepak Aswani 1973-75#) as the President & Mr.C.A.Salim(1977-79#) as the Treasurer. This was christened Cochin Management Club (CMC). Membership pins were issued to Members.
Family get-togethers were organised in Hotel Abad Plaza & International Hotel, which were resounding successes.
In this 'avatar', the Alumni Association lasted longer than the previous birhs, thanks to Mr.Deepak & Mr.Salim. History had to repeat itself. After an exercise in soul searching, the founding fathers of CMC decided to change the facade, re-baptised the Association to "SMS Alumni Association". Mr.Deepak was elected President & Mr.C.A.Salim was elected Treasurer. Annual events under the name "La Nostalgia" were conducted. These were resounding successes.
I am glad to say that the Association has learnt from past mistakes & has emerged stronger. It has been a kind of metamorphosis. The Association has come out stronger & more vibrant at each stage.
I exhort all the Alumni to participate in the activities of the Association & take it to newer heights.
